Beyond The Barricade, the UKʼs longest running musical theatre concert tour, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year and is coming back to Ireland in September for just three shows, including Castlebar.
Beyond The Barricade started life in 1996 as a one-off charity concert to help a local charity in Britain, drawing on songs from the great musicals. But it soon took on a life of its own. In 1999 the show went on the road professionally.
Mayo theatre goers will have enjoyed the top-class production put together by local singing teacher Lavinia Slater Gilmartin and her team some years ago.
Beyond the Barricade features past principal performers from Les Misérables and delivers over two hours of songs from the best musicals of the West End and Broadway, ending of course with a stunning finale from Les Misérables. This brand new show for 2019 will include many of the best numbers that have made Beyond the Barricade the most popular musical theatre concert in the UK, and includes songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Hamilton, The Lion King, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, and many more.
The 20th Anniversary concert features David Fawcett (Valjean in the West End and Manchester) Andy Reiss (Enjolras/Resident Director for the National Tour) Katie Leeming (Eponine in the West End) and Poppy Tierney (Cosette in the West End and National Tour), together with a live band who capture the feel of the original orchestrations of the chosen musicals.
To this day every musical note is still played and sung live – very rare indeed.
Beyond the Barricade gives musical theatre songs a bold concert format treatment – but with the conviction and intention to deliver the material as if the audience are watching the original performance, recreating West End and Broadway hit songs with amazing authenticity.
Andy, David, Katie and Poppy also featured in the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Concert, staged at the O2 Arena, London.
The show has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand and is playing just three dates in Ireland. This is a must for musical theatre fans.
Donʼt miss this wonderful show in the Royal Theatre Castlebar on Thursday 19th September 2019.
