Rock ‘n’ Roll Classics and Soul Classics Limited Edition on vinyl
On Friday 5th July, Golden Discs are releasing two compilation albums, the retail brand’s first foray into the world of record production.
The series is called ‘Golden Discs Presents…’ and the first two albums are compilations of rock n roll and soul classics. Both are pressed on 180gm heavyweight red vinyl and are limited to 300 hand-numbered copies each. The records were pressed at Dublin Vinyl, a manufacturing facility based in Glasnevin and servicing the international music market.
The track listing was put together by Garth Brophy, Golden Discs’ vinyl buyer. For Golden Discs Presents Rock N Roll Classics, Garth has gone right back to the birth of rock and roll in the 1950s, and included tracks by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. And for Golden Discs Presents Soul Classics, he chose songs from Ben E. King, Gladys Knight, Ike and Tina Turner, and Wilson Pickett, amongst other soul legends. The result are two albums with endless appeal, a superbly curated selection that will perfectly evoke an era and ensure you stay up late dancing around your living room!
Vinyl has become increasingly important to Golden Discs in recent years, with vinyl sales representing a large part of the brand’s business. The Vinyl Lounge in Cork has become a staple of the city’s music scene in the two years it has been open, and there are plans to open more Vinyl Lounges. It seemed like a natural progression to start a vinyl series representing the brand. CEO Stephen Fitzgerald says, ‘We’re very excited for the launch of the ‘Golden Discs Presents…’ vinyl series. Vinyl has gone from strength to strength for us over the last few years and to put out our own limited edition LPs is the culmination of a lot of work in ensuring that the format continues to be a hugely important part of the Golden Discs offering.’
Established in 1962, Golden Discs is Ireland’s only homegrown music retail brand. With this new series of records they are taking an important step forward and hopefully Golden Discs Presents…’ will become a household staple in the coming years.
