Philip Cassidy has returned to reprise his role as Director at The Core Mayo, located in Ballina Arts Centre.
The Core is a resource for young musicians and schools in the Mayo community, operated under the auspices of Music Generation Mayo. Music Generation is a national programme that was initiated in 2011 by U2 and The Ireland Funds to help ensure that everyone, no matter what their background, can get access to music tuition.
At The Core Mayo, young people aged between 12 and 18 can engage in instrumental tuition, workshops, camps and regular performance opportunities such as open mics and showcases. It also provides young people with confidence building space in a friendly and communal setting.
Ballina-born musician Philip comes back from a career break filled with new ideas for the project. He replaces Knockmore native Cathal Faughnan who was in charge during 2023, and brought a flavour of the impressive talent at The Core to a number of events during Ballina’s mammoth 300th anniversary celebrations.
The February Camp at The Core, which takes place during school mid-term break, is now taking bookings. The camp is open to members and non-members, at a cost of €40 and €50 respectively.
It will take place from 11a.m. to 2p.m. on February 12, 13 and 14.
Booking can be made online at www.thecoremayo.ie. You can also contact Philip directly on 087-7485954 or by emailing philipcassidy@msletb.ie.
