Fresh from festival appearances at Doolin and Galway Folk Festivals, Padraig Jack releases the second single from his next album, a song called What Is Love.
Padraig Jack was born into a musical family from the Aran Islands. His dad is the songwriter Barry Ronan and he is the nephew of the Irish poet and Aosdána member Mary O’Malley.
A songwriter and composer who writes and sings songs with guitar and piano, in both Irish and English, his debut album Making Sand was named the RTE Radio Album of the Week, garnering critical acclaim from Hot Press, Rock’n’Reel magazine (UK) and The Alternate Root (USA). The title track was nominated for Best Original Track at the RTE Folk Awards.
Padraig is currently recording his second album with renowned producer John Reynolds (Sinead O Connor, Damien Dempsey).
He tours regularly in Ireland and the UK and is currently across the Irish Sea with Miles Hunt of The Wonder Stuff.
He will perform shows on Clare Island on 9th September and The Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar on 10th November.
Having opened for Damien Dempsey in Vicar Street, and to a crowd of 4,000 in the Iveagh Gardens last year, Padraig started 2023 with tours of Wales and the Basque Country.
He will be playing shows all around Ireland between now and the end of the year, including a return to his weekly residency show at Joe Wattys in the Aran Islands.
What Is Love is not so much a love song as a song about exploring romance, pondering the interpersonal connections between people and the universal nature of a powerful force that doesn’t distinguish between cultures and borders.
What Is Love is out this weekend, the second single of his upcoming new album which will be released in 2024.
