Marking ten years since their formation, Galway’s The Whileaways will be on tour next month following the launch of their new album In All Honesty on 3rd June.
The Whileaways are Noelie McDonnell, Noriana Kennedy and Nicola Joyce.
The tour will include a show in Campbells Tavern, Headford on 17th June and the Town Hall Theatre, Westport on 25th June.
The most recent single from the band was released on April 29th. Toss the Bobbin is an extract from their forthcoming album and the song tells the story of the 18th century lacemaking women of Headford, where The Whileaways are based and where Nicola grew up.
The Whileaways performed Toss the Bobbin with the RTE Concert Orchestra for the Strings Attached series, subsequently recording this beautiful version for their new album.
Toss the Bobbin imagines the story of four women who survived poverty and famine through bobbin lacemaking, and pieces together the little detail that exists of their lives. It tells of their resilience, and of the sisterhood that existed between them in the toughest of times as they turned their hands to this intricate work.
The Whileaways have a great reputation for their live performances, whether touring their own material or for their much-lauded show Bird On The Wire. That 2019-2021 show featuring a ten-piece band, including strings, was a collaboration with Pauline Scanlon, and it explored the works of songwriting icon Leonard Cohen.
