Chrome Heart marks the first release in ten years from The Walls.
Hard to believe, but it was 2012 when the last Walls’ recording, their album Stop the Lights, was released.
Since then drummer Rory Doyle has been touring and recording with Hozier, and bassist Jon O’Connell is an in-demand musician and producer in Co. Clare.
Meanwhile, brothers Steve and Joe Wall have been busy with their other band, The Stunning, producing and releasing two new singles and an album, Twice Around the World.
In addition to that, Steve has been focussing on a burgeoning acting career (includingThe South Westerlies for RTE and Silent Witness for BBC), while Joe is a core part of the BIMM music college team.
The Walls have spent much of the past two years sifting through their recorded archives and compiling an album of rarities and previously unreleased material. This will result in the album Stray Sparks, due for release later this year.
The new single Chrome Heart describes a sense of emotional detachment and disillusionment with life – a sense of emptiness.
The signature guitar riffs from Steve and Joe are there – penetrating and angular over a steady groove. The rhythm section of Rory and Jon helps showcase the subtle confidence of a band at the height of their powers. The overall effect is a moody one with echoes of Joy Division or The National.
Chrome Heart was mixed by Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey, Editors).
