The Blizzards released Pound the Pavement, their first single of 2020, on March 27th.
But the band were also due to film a performance-based music video which, out of respect for the current Covid-19 restrictions, was cancelled.
Instead, they’ve worked on a way to create a video that brings the band together as abstract versions of themselves performing in a virtual location – and here it is, just out today.
The video is a collaboration with Algorithm Productions, a creative production studio based in Dublin. Algorithm build stunning, powerful and memorable pieces that push boundaries using their technical expertise and flair for experimental art.
The Pound the Pavement video concept is a continuation of The Blizzards’ album cover from their 2019 album The Last Great Algorithm – their first album in eleven years – depicting the brain scans of all four band members whilst engaged in playing their instruments.
This was combined with Algorithm Productions’ use of a Mocap suit (Motion Capture Suit) from Target 3D in the UK.
Now the real-live performances of Bressie, Dec, Louize and Justin are captured in abstract form.
The video marks a creative step in being one of the first occasions that this technology has been used to record motion data of band members performing from their respective homes.
To date Pound the Pavement has received incredible support from Irish radio stations with over six million impressions in the first few weeks of release. The single has also featured on Spotify New Music Friday with over 700K active listeners.
Pound the Pavement is about taking control back when you think you have lost it.
“The song projects a message of hope, grit and determination to overcome the challenges we are all facing today,” said the band.
