Other Voices Festival returns to Dingle, Kerry on 29 November-1 December. This is the 18th instalment of the truly magical three-day festival of music, song and story, creating an incredible atmosphere both in St James’ Church and throughout the town of Dingle.
Joining The Murder Capital (pictured) and Soak in the church venue will be Jafaris, Whitney and Angie McMahon.
On the Dingle Gin Music Trail are Soda Blonde, Gypsies on the Autobahn, Fehdah, The Scratch, Sim Simma Soundsystem, Cherym, Gemma Bradley and many many more!
Dublin-based five-piece The Murder Capital have built a formidable reputation. They have been included in The Guardian’s Ones to Watch 2019, NME’s 100 Essential New Artists for 2019 and The Irish Times calling them out as Ireland’s best new rock band. The live version of their latest video for More Is Less went viral and forged the band’s breakthrough. Their debut album ‘When I Have Fears’ reached a Top 20 chart position in the UK, and a #2 position in Ireland.
Chicago-based band Whitney, led by vocalist/drummer Julien Ehrlich and guitarist Max Kakacek, released their album, Forever Turned Around, earlier this year. The follow up to their much-beloved debut, 2016’s Light Upon the Lake. Forever Turned Around was co-produced by Brad Cook (Bon Iver) and Jonathan Rado. Whitney has a full-fledged live band with keyboardist Malcolm Brown, guitarist Print Chouteau, bassist Josiah Marshall, and trumpeter Will Miller.
Dublin based, hip-hop artist Jafaris received critical praise for his debut album Stride, which earned him his place as one of Ireland’s foremost players of the new generation of Irish hip-hop. With the release of his EP in 2017, Jafaris produces nostalgic nineties hip hop and pure, contagious happiness.
Derry singer Soak released her debut album Before We Forgot How to Dream in 2015 which won the Choice Music Prize Album of the Year. The Guardian described Soak’s music as ‘a vivid portrait of teenage deep-thinking’. Earlier this year, Soaks’s second album Grim Town was released to rave reviews. Watch the lead single Déjà Vu taken from Grim Town.
Australian songwriter Angie McMahon is the twenty-something heroine you can relate to and root for; her charming, honest songs about life, love, and comfort food. Her debut album Salt is stocked with the raw, honest anthems – like ‘Slow Mover’, ‘Missing Me’, and ‘Pasta’ – that have enraptured fans and charts. Drawing inspiration from Bruce Springsteen, Lianne La Havas and Big Thief, her music ranges from punchy rock to whispering ballads but hums with realness of a true original.
